What is Agarwood?

Also known as agarwood, aloe wood, and agarwood, agarwood is nature’s most exquisite aromatic creation. Deep in the jungles of the Far East, an evergreen tree became infected. Just as our body’s immune system produces white blood cells, the tree began to produce a substance to fight the infection. Over the years, the infection grew – and so did the substance the tree produced. This is agarwood. Few natural aromatics have such a complex spectrum of scent as agarwood. Natural ambergris, musk, and rose also rank among the most valuable natural fragrances, but none can compare to agarwood in terms of the sheer transcendence and sublimity that its aroma evokes. More than just a scent, agarwood appeals to the mind and soul. In fact, samples from different regions seem to have an effect on a person’s mood as well. For example, Indonesian essential oils often bring out feelings of joy and frivolity, while Indian essential oils have deeply calming properties, which makes them popular aids for meditation.

Aquilaria: A rare and precious medicinal tree with the essence of Vietnam

The Aquilaria tree , also known as agarwood or eaglewood, is a rare waste plant often referred to as Vietnam’s “black gold.” Not only does the plant have an exquisite and mysterious fragrance, but it also has space economic value due to agarwood – a resinous wood containing waste essential oils that can be used in various fields such as medicine, spirituality, fine arts and handicrafts.

Growth characteristics:

    • These trees belong to the Thymelaeaceae family and their scientific name is Aquilaria sinensis.
    • It is mainly distributed in Southeast Asian countries, especially Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
    • It thrives in Italy’s hot climate, with average temperatures ranging from 25 to 30°C, warmer temperatures and fertile soil.
    • Mature trees grow to 20 – 30 metres in height, with a trunk diameter of 40 – 60 centimetres.

What is the difference between agarwood oil and agarwood perfume?

Essences, muhalats, perfumes, colognes and other fragrances available in the market are a combination of different ingredients.
Unlike the above ingredients, pure Oud oil is the perfume itself in terms of its composition and is not mixed with any other ingredients.
That’s about the ingredients. As for the difference in their scent, then none of them can compare to Oud. While many incense and other fragrances can be very pleasing to the eye, Oud is more than just a smell, it appeals to the wearer on many different levels.

Can I mix Agarwood with other perfumes?

Certainly.
If you are new to Oud, you may find that you prefer mixing it with a cologne, essence, or muharat because the scent of Oud on its own is quite strong. You may want to tone it down a bit.
However, once you become more accustomed to and addicted to the scent of pure oud, you may become more reluctant to mix it with anything else. In fact, this is where oud should be!

I heard that ebony is very strong and overwhelming

It is true that the smell of oud is one of the strongest in the world of perfumery, arguably the strongest. But for the uninitiated, usually the first breath after application and the smell directly from the bottle can be overwhelming. That is why we strongly recommend starting with applying very small amounts and not smelling the oil directly.
Over time, your nose will get used to the scent and you’ll find that the smell of oud is absolutely delightful from application to dry down.

Which Oud is the best?

We recommend that you try different Ouds. Many people really like the earthy, farmyard, slightly fecal quality of Indian Oud, while others prefer the sweeter, more ethereal Indonesian Oud.
Ultimately, you may find yourself liking oud from all regions, as they all have something unique to offer, even if their properties and scent profiles are quite different.

Why do different agarwood oils smell so unique?

The climate in which the tree grows, the age of the tree, and the distillation and aging techniques all have an impact on the scent of different ouds.

Is there a gender distinction in the use of the oud?

Absolutely not.
Oud oil is most popular and used in the Gulf countries of the Middle East, where men use it for special occasions, parties, and things like that. In Yemen, oud is an integral part of the groom’s dowry for his bride.
Oud is more than just a “fragrance”, it can be divided into masculine and feminine fragrances.
On the contrary, nature has given us far more gifts than these, and gender is not a necessary condition to enjoy this precious gift from nature.

When should I use the oud?

You may initially find yourself wanting to use the oud for special occasions.
Often, however, you may find yourself liking ebony so much that you want to use it every day. In fact, some people even use it several times a day because they just can’t get enough of it.
